The community has its own wastewater system that was constructed between 1970 and 1973. It consists of about 11.4 miles of sewer mains and 113 manholes. The sewer mains are typically 4-foot long sections of concrete pipe with rubber gaskets. It also has three sewer pump stations. The wastewater is collected and flows to the wastewater treatment plant.
In 2008, the sewer system was televised and inspected. This was an evaluation to identify the extent of the problem with ground water infiltration and inflow (I&I). The inspection identified 105 problem areas.
The sewer mains are in fair condition and will have a life span of 50 to 100 years. There is some root intrusion and cracks that will require future maintenance.
Interesting sewer facts:
- Average daily flow in the summer is 20,000 gallons per day of wastewater.
- Peak flows from groundwater infiltration is as high as 400,000 gallons per day
- The majority of groundwater infiltration comes from leaks where the house service lien connects to the sewer main.
